Brunel University’s Placement and Careers Centre (PCC) were named winners for the third year running at the National Placement and Internship Awards on Wednesday 18 January 2012.
The PCC picked up the award for Best University Placement/Careers Service, which celebrates the contributions made by Careers Services in helping students make the most of their work experience opportunities. Oliver Sidwell, co-founder of Rate My Placement, the organisation which created the awards, praised the PCC’s dedication to students’ needs: “Alongside a university-wide commitment to improving employability, this one-stop-shop goes beyond the call of duty to develop innovative and forward-thinking ways to engage students and recruiters alike. Focusing on engaging students early through the publication of an employability guide, placement peer monitoring schemes and an effective use of social media and technology, the judges were amazed by the quantity of initiatives developed by this department.”

Research Assessment Exercise rating
Every 5 years the Government assesses the research provision of each university. In the current Research Assessment Exercise, 95% of academics in the School achieved international standard, with 100% achieving this level in General Engineering. General Engineering at Brunel is ranked 5th in the country and Mechanical Engineering is ranked 8th in the country by Research Power. Thus academics in the School are conducting research, which is nationally and internationally recognised. Choosing Brunel would mean that you would be taught by doctors and professors that are writing the textbooks that other Universities with a lower research rating might be using as support material in their lectures. This strong research provision means that many of the programmes we are providing are being informed by cutting edge research enhancing the curriculum being taught.
Many undergraduate courses are accredited with UK professional organisations including the IMechE, the IET and the Institute of Engineering Designers. This is your ticket to chartered engineering status.
