James Cook University is one of Australia's highest ranking research universities, with excellent facilities, highly qualified staff and quality degrees. JCU has an international reputation for expertise in matters relating to the tropics-in marine biology, environmental studies, tropical health, tourism, agriculture, to name just a few.Named after the eighteenth century English navigator and explorer, Captain James Cook, James Cook University (JCU) is one of Queensland's premier universities and Australia's leading tropical University. The main campuses are based in Townsville and Cairns, located in north Queensland, one of Australia's fastest growing regions. Smaller study centres are located in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and JCU's Singapore campus opened in July 2003. Total student enrolment at JCU 13,000 and growing, including more than 1,300 international students from 90 different countries. JCU is one of only 13 Australian universities ranked in the top 500 in the world (Source: Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Institute of Higher Education).
- Townsville
Townsville is a thriving coastal city and port with a population of around 140,000, making it Australia's largest tropical city. Situated in the dry tropics, most days are sunny with average daytime temperatures of 25C (77F) - 30C (86F) for autumn, winter and spring (when most of the teaching year falls). Around 10,000 students study on the Townsville campus including over 1,000 international students. - Cairns
Cairns is one of Australia's busiest tourist destinations, where visitors come to enjoy the natural attractions and activities on offer, including scuba diving and snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, white water rafting and the rainforest region of Cape Tribulation. The study experience at the Cairns campus is enhanced by the unique natural tropical environment, which is surrounded on three sides by rainforest-covered mountains. With over 3,000 students enrolled, including 200 international students, the campus offers modern facilities in a pleasant layout.

Accomodation
JCU's Accommodation Service on the Townsville and Cairns campuses assists students in finding housing in on-campus colleges or halls of residence as well as in private rental or share accommodation (off-campus).
