GRE - Scoring Process
The scoring of Subject Tests is essentially a two-step process.
- First, a raw score is computed. The raw score for a Subject Test is the number of multiple-choice questions you answered correctly minus one-fourththe number of questions you answered incorrectly.
- Second, so that individual scores can be compared to one another, each raw score is converted to a scaled score through an equating process. The equating process takes into account the differences in difficulty among the different test editions. As a result, for each individual Subject Test, a given scaled score reflects approximately the same level of ability regardless of the edition of the test that was taken.
